Happy New Year

January 2, 2014

A belated Happy New Year, but it is only January 2nd so it is not too late.  Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions?  I did and one of them is to keep this a little better up to date as the blog was severely neglected last year.  My resolution is to do at least 1 post a week no matter how short and I will typically aim to add this on either a Saturday or a Sunday.

Plans for the New Year?  Yes, yesterday we purchased tickets to spend the Summer with the family back in England.  Miss K will celebrate her 7th Birthday surrounded by family both old and new as she, and I, will have several cousins that we have not yet met, and one is still to be born.  To say that we’re both excited is an understatement.  John will join us for the last 3 weeks but Kirsten and I will have 7 weeks in total with a couple of trips within trips too.  She’s already asking if she can take certain items with her.  There is no way we can do a count down for just under 5 months.  I am going to have to purchase a calendar for her room so that she can mark it off there herself.  Some of you may remember from years back that we did a 7 week countdown for a 5 week trip to England for Christmas and that was exhausting.  Anyone any other ideas or suggestions?

Photo Books

April 8, 2012

I briefly mentioned back in January that I had been contacted by Shutterfly regarding a guest blog post.  Well we’ve just got back from 3 weeks in England and whilst away it was posted.

It all came about due to the fact that Miss K has provided us with so much wonderful art work from school and I just can’t keep all of  it, but don’t want to lose those memories so try to find time to scan it into the computer, or if the art work is too large then I photograph it.  At the end of the last 2 school years I have then created a photo book of her art work and am on track to do the same again this year.  Back at the start of January, before I started back at work, I was tweeting about scanning in the art work and received a tweet from Shutterfly asking if I would be interested in writing a guest blog post which I did.  I wasn’t sure if, or when this would be used but as I said towards the end of our first week in England (3rd week of March) it was posted on their website.  For those of you interested in reading it here you are: My Guest Blog Post.  Next I received an email from Shutterfly announcing that I was going to be their Facebook Fan of the Week for March 16 so could I provide them with a photo, which I gladly did.  It was one of the pictures taken of myself and Kirsten whilst on our Disney Cruise last September.  I don’t know if I can provide you with a link to the post, but I can provide you with a link to the photo so here goes:  Facebook Fan of the Week.

For those of you wondering about the end product of some of these photo books here you are:

Preschool Art Work Year 1:  2009 – 2010

Summer Camp Art Work:  2010

Preschool Art Work Year 2: 2010 – 2011

Enjoy.  I hope this provides you with a little inspiration.  This year’s art work photo book will probably look very different as I am aware that Shutterfly have introduced new styles specifically for this job now.

Happy Easter all.

Beautiful Filly

June 9, 2011

I knowShe is only about 8 hours old in this picture I only posted yesterday, but I had to share these pictures.  My friend, Sunny, who is also British and living here, has a beautiful Arabian that they were given a few weeks back by Mother-In-Law.  I believe her name is Consuela (sorry Sunny if I got that wrong).  Anyway Consuela gave birth to a beautiful daughter at 1am this morning and whilst Kirsten and I were out delivering Avon books/orders this morning we did a drive by to say hello to the new baby.  I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Just on a side note please check out Sunny’s website, Natural Body Harmony, if you would like to find out more about obtaining Natural Healthcare products.

Happy New Year

January 1, 2010

All

Happy New Year one and all.  As usual apologies are tenfold for not having updated.  We had a wonderful Christmas watching Kirsten try to understand the concept of what was going on.  Next year will be even more exciting.  She now wakes up every morning asking for presents.  It’s back to school as of Monday and she will now be going 3 mornings a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday as she has been moved up with a couple of other children to the Older Twos class.  No she’s not yet potty trainined.  I was going to spend Christmas doing that but then she ended up with a cold (and so did I) so decided that was just too much to handle.

We have also spent Christmas converting Kirsten’s bedroom from that of a baby to that of a toddler.  The only thing remained the same is that she is still sleeping in a crib.  She has shown no signs of trying to climb out so in that case why push it.  It will ultimately convert to that of a toddler bed.  Boxing Day the 3 of us took a trip to Ikea (no hoards here in Phoenix, not like if we were back in England) and then I spent the next few days putting the storage furniture together.  Her room now has her kitchen, tables and chairs (for tea parties) and plenty of storage.  We actually bought too much storage to allow for new items…which you know she’ll get.

Last but not least I’ve been trying to clear out the clutter around the house.  We donated the bed that we shipped from England together with the matching furniture (3 bedside cabinets and a small chest of drawers) to the family that Infosol (where John works) sponsored for Christmas.  It turned out that they had 10 children and some of them were still sleeping in toddler beds.  We’ve also cleared a number of the empty boxes out of the storage room and yesterday the workout bench went to a work colleague of John’s.  I don’t know if I told you that we had sold the free weights and the storage rack at the end of the summer or not.  Currently what was the gym still has the treadmill in it but I’m using it more as a sewing room as many of you will know I’m really enjoying that at the moment.

I have signed up for the next Fitness Challenge at the gym.  I only lost 5lbs during the last one, but did lose 6% body fat.  I’ve got the Phoenix Half Marathon in 2 weeks (won’t successfully run it, but I’ll make it to the end) and I’m signed up for the triathlon mid-way through April so that will keep me motivated to try and finally lose these 10lbs minimum that I want to lose.

Anyway better go as Kirsten has woken up and I can hear her over the monitor.

Again, Happy New Year to you!

March 2008

April 4, 2008

Well we hit a major milestone.  Kirsten started crawling on Wednesday March 26.  To start with it was a few hesitant “steps” and to prove to Daddy I wasn’t making it up I had to use treats.  Within a couple of days I now can’t keep my eyes off of her and she’s having to learn the word “no”.  So far we’ve had magazines out from under the coffee table, and the lamp in the lamp in the living room has been pulled down twice.

I got my new car on Thursday 27th March.  It was a little earlier than planned, but I certainly got what I wanted and such a good deal too.  http://automobiles.honda.com/odyssey/  This link should take you to see it, but I now have a 2008 Honda Odyssey Touring in Nimbus Grey Metallic with Olive Green leather interior and all the other bells and whistles too.  This means we’re currently dealing with 4 cars, but John’s blue S4 is returned in about 6 weeks (end of May) and the 4Runner that I was driving is to be returned at the start of July.

So what are Kirsten’s statistics for 10 months.  She hasn’t grown any more and is still 29 or so inches but her weight is now 19 lbs 9 oz (approximately 8.88 kilos).  I think her first teeth are finally giving that final push through so she has a horrible cold and cough.  John’s allergies have come out as it is hayfever season and as of last night I think I’ve also started a cold – oh well what can you do.

Have a great month everyone.

Attention Please – Links to Pictures

February 25, 2008

All this is just a short update, but I wanted to bring to your attention that if you look to the righthand side you will see a small heading called photos.  Under this heading is 2 links.  One will take you to the Kiddie Kandids website where you will find that pictures of Kirsten that have been professionally taken – these are currently for 1 month; 4 months and 6 months.  She is booked in to take 9 month pictures in 10 days time.  The other link is to Shutterfly to find all the albums of pictures of Kirsten.  Hopefully you’ll find this works.  If it doesn’t let us know.

You will also see a heading above it called “blogroll”.  You will see a link to Bryan and Debra.  Bryan works with John and Bryan and Debra are getting married on March 15.  We would like to wish them all the best.  We will be attending the nuptials after John takes part in the sponsored bike ride in the morning.

End of January

January 31, 2008

Can you believe that Kirsten is now 8 months old.  We weighed her last night just before she went to bed and she is 18 lbs 6.5 oz (8.35 kilos).  Although she’s been teething on and off for a couple of months you can see the whites through her gums when she smiles, but still nothing actually there.  Kirsten has also decided she’s not going to crawl.  We go to storytime at the library on Wednesday mornings and with numerous babies around her crawling and walking she is more than happy to sit and watch.  Admittedly at home she will use her lungs if she can’t get what she wants but otherwise she moves around by rolling and sliding backwards on the wood furniture.  I even found her in the office the other day.  Last week we bought her a walker so she is starting to get to grips with that.

I have to admit that we’re enjoying some quiet time at home.  Last Saturday evening we participated in the Black Mountain Elementary School Lumineria Run.  John did the timed 4 mile run and I did the 2 mile walk.  Please be aware that this course goes up and down steep hills.  Kirsten and I managed the 2 miles in 30 minutes so we were really pleased with our effort.

Mohawk and Charlotte are getting to grips with Kirsten.  Mohawk is intrigued by Kirsten and goes to check her out regularly – as yet he’s not overly concerned by the pulling of hair.  Charlotte on the other hand tends to steer clear – personally I don’t blame her.

No photos this time.  I’m trying to work out some technical issues so hopefully they will all come soon.
